Setting of the Scene : Jerome Elementary
Character introduction : Mike and Danny
Mike and Danny were 3rd and 2nd graders in Jerome Elementary school. They both do not know each other. One day , at school , all of the first graders through 4th graders were invited to an assembly.The principal said “ Second-third graders , fourth-first graders will work together as a team for Marathon. I will pick the pair for you.”
When Mike received his Marathon card , he saw that his teammate was Danny.He wondered who the kid was.The following day, Mike met Danny outside at recess.He noticed something strange.Danny was on a wheelchair.Mike was not happy about being Danny’s partner because he thought people on wheelchairs are really slow and that he will not be a winner this time.
Danny ,on the other hand , felt happy about being Mike’s partner.Danny thanked Mike for coming over to meet him and he also expressed how excited he was for the Marathon. Mike was the fastest runner who had won every single prize in the Marathon so far. Danny, who was new to the school was physically challenged and was on a wheelchair.
Danny asked Mike “Can we start practicing?”Mike agreed to practice and they both headed to the field.Danny zipped through the track and Mike was barely able to catch up.Mike was surprised to see Danny cruise through the lanes and he understood how wrong he was.
After a few days, Mike and Danny improved and started to like each other as partners. With few more days to Marathon , they both made up their own sign language. Sometimes, sign might mean to go faster,other times to go slower.They got to know each other better as days passed by.
The day of the Marathon arrived.All the team took their spots on the tracks.After a few minutes the race began with the fire of the pistol.With the dust rising up the ground, Mike and Danny were of to a good start.No, A Perfect start!!!Ten laps had passed and 17 out of 50 team partners were remaining in the track not giving up.When the 25th lap had passed , only two teams were left.
Finally ,Mike and Danny had finally crossed the finish line beating the other team by a millisecond and they were so proud of their achievement.Mike and Danny smiled at each other and signalled a thumbs up.They received a prize at the assembly for being best partners.
Morals:
1. Hard work pays.
2.Teamwork is always helpful.
3.Never judge other by their physical appearance.
